Professor Marco Tatullo (MD, DDS, PhD, PG Dipl. Oral Surg.) is a Full Professor and Dean of the Dental School at the University of Bari (Italy). He is also the Director of the Interdepartmental Research Centre in “Regenerative Medicine and Cell Therapy” (M.I.R.R.O.R.—Medical Institute for Regeneration, Repair, and Organ Replacement).
Prof. Tatullo holds the position of Lifetime Honorary Senior Clinical Lecturer at the University of Dundee (UK). Previously, he served as Scientific Director and Chief of R&D Strategy at the Marrelli Health Group—a leading Italian company in Oncology and Oral Health—and as Head of Research at the Tecnologica Research Institute (Italy).
An internationally recognised expert in stem cell biology and regenerative medicine, Prof. Tatullo has conducted extensive research on tissue engineering using bioactive scaffolds, smart prostheses, and implants. His work focuses on surface coatings to improve clinical outcomes, 3D organoids and tumoroids, AI in medicine, and inflammaging.
In 2015, he was the first to describe a new MSC lineage, termed “hPCy-MSCs” (Human Periapical-Cyst Mesenchymal Stem Cells). These were subsequently differentiated into osteoblasts, neurons, adipocytes, chondrocytes, dopaminergic neuron-like cells, astrocytes, ameloblasts, and odontoblasts. His scientific interests encompass innovative strategies for tailored therapeutic approaches to multi-organ diseases. To date, Prof. Tatullo’s laboratories and research teams have secured research funding exceeding €40 million.
