Personal profile

Dr. Brian McShane is Senior Lecturer in Criminology and Criminal Justice and an experienced researcher working with children and young people. Research interests include: young people  - violence, exploitation and prevention  - youth cultures and criminalisation  - masculinities.

Dr. McShane has conducted funded research with a range of organisations including Youth Justice Services in London, Coventry and Leicester and the Youth Endowment Fund. He has previous practice experience working in local government and youth work teams on gang diversion and violence reduction programmes. Current and recently completed research projects have looked at: Young people, SEND and exploitation  - A&E Navigators violence prevention provision in England and Wales  - The effectiveness of non-statutory provision by youth justice services  - Youth music and the policing of drill.
